Hi there, I'm Sylvi Martin, a naturopathic doctor, registered nurse and regulatory consultant who is passionate about helping regulated clinicians to protect their practice by preventing risk.
It's difficult to keep up with all of your regulatory requirements and standards of practice on top of everything else you're already managing in your practice. Trust me, I get it. I have over a dozen years of experience working in professional regulations - for two different regulators - and I still have plenty of questions!
Over the years I've become all too familiar with the ways that clinicians can easily find themselves in hot water with their regulator; often with situations that are entirely preventable in the first place.
I'm here to help you navigate your professional obligations while you expand your practice offerings so you can do what you do best and help more people.
The extended version
Sylvi Martin is a registered nurse, naturopathic doctor and regulatory consultant. She graduated cum laude (with distinction) with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Laurentian University in 2004, and a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2009.
She has over twelve years of experience working in professional regulations, having worked as an Investigator for the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario from 2009-2021, and as a professional member of the College of Naturopaths of Ontario's Inquiries Complaints and Reports Committee since 2015. Since 2019, Sylvi has served as a regulatory consultant, and since 2020 she has facilitated the Health Pro Membership, which helps regulated clinicians to make sense of their professional regulations to reduce risk in their practice.
Sylvi has completed the following training: Professional Regulation and Discipline in the Ontario Health Care Sector (Osgoode Hall Law School); Alternative Dispute Resolution Training (Stitt Feld Handy Group); Fundamentals of Fact-Finding Investigations Training (the Workplace Institute); Trauma-informed Interviewing (CPSO), and Infection Prevention and Control Training for clinical investigators (Public Health Ontario).
Since 2016, Sylvi has instructed various ethics and jurisprudence courses on her own learning platform (Learn.drsylvimartin.com) and for various organizations including the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors, the British Columbia Naturopathic Association, the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia, the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Medicine, the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Naturopaths & Herbalists' Association of Australia.
